If the drive passes SeaTools for Windows, your troubleshooting efforts can move to other areas. It installs onto your system and allows you to select a specific test. ![]() IF the hard disk is at fault, would you suggest connecting it to the computer and making it a download drive? Or an external, it'd be a sad waste to just leave it like that, even though it's probably dying. I have a Seagate 1TB HD set up as my boot drive, and according to its SMART parameters, it’s starting to fail: the Reallocated sectors count is at 458 (and has been increasing for the last months), while Current pending sectors and Uncorrectable sectors have recently jumped from 0 to 3. Seagate SeaTools for Windows tests SATA, USB, 1394, ATA (PATA/IDE), and SCSI drives. If there are any other tests or scans I need to run in order to ensure that the hard drive is at fault or to find the problem, please do go ahead and suggest. The Seagate website advised to run 'SeaTools for DOS'. Thus I started narrowing down on hardware problems and in between I saw that on a few occasions the laptop would not recognize the hard drive at boot and would give No bootable media error. I tried to clean up the startup programs and left them to bare minimum and essential, ran multiple scans of CCleaner, Virus Checks, Spyware scans, but to no avail. The laptop was also working without any problem until a month or two ago, when it started literally dragging and every operation would take a long time, especially saving documents or even opening normal programs like Word which would open without much delay before. Seagate Seatools works pretty well even with drives not from the maker - don't let the name fool you :p It's one of the best tools in my opinion, and if it returns a fail on Short Generic. I tried replugging the hard disk to make sure the connector wasn't loose or anything, but that didn't seem to fix the problem. Sorry about that, what other information should I provide? ![]()
